KENTUCKY EQUESTRIAN CENTER
The Kentucky Equestrian Center (KEC) is located in the rolling hills of Clark County, Kentucky adjacent to the Bert T. Combs Mountain Parkway and KY Highway 974. Just eleven miles east of the historic town of Winchester and 30 miles from Lexington, the Kentucky Equestrian Center's vision is to serve local, state, national and world equestrian competitors of all equine breeds in rail, dressage, hunter, eventing, western and versatility events. Breeds that have already competed on the KEC grounds include Arabians, Tennessee Walkers, Kentucky Mountain, Rocky Mountain, Paso Fino, American Saddlebred, McCurdy Plantation and the Quarter Horses.
The beautiful blue hue of the Appalachian foot hills serves as a distant back drop to the KEC. A photographers dream, the 75 acre facility currently features six horse barns with 128 stalls, a 150 foot by 350 foot lighted, out door show arena, a 100 foot by 150 foot lighted, warm up arena, a 20 by 60 meter lighted, railed, dressage arena, a 20 by 40 meter warm up dressage arena, and a fenced grass obstacle course which features five permanent obstacles and space for another 15 to 20 temporary obstacles. There is a 60 by 150 foot multi-purpose building which is ideal for clinics, education events or any indoor activity and can be converted into temporary stabling if the need arises. The facility has 30 and 50 amp RV hook ups which are for rent for an event or daily basis depending on facility booking. Primitive camping is available as well. The property also can be used for cross country competitions.
The Kentucky Equestrian Center wants to reach out to its surrounding communities to fill their need for any event, educational and activity venues. While providing RV hook-ups for the traveling equestrian, the KEC is open as a horse hotel for the traveling horse to rest and relax. Even providing horse and rider a brief respite to ride across the rolling landscape surrounding the main stabling and show areas.
Serving the world one event at a time includes a place for lectures, concerts, agricultural activities such as 4H club, dog, sheep, cattle, llama or alpaca clinics and competitions, educational events, or art fairs. A focal point for a multi purpose venue, this facility envisions to be open year round for community, state and national use. When completed, it will add millions of dollars annually to the economy of the surrounding area and be a tourist destination for the equestrian world. |
Changes are coming:
For spring the second arena will be 120 feet by 280 feet, with a new softer, deeper surface. This lighted arena will be great for those breeds who like a river sand mix footing between 5 to 7 inches deep. We want to attract all those show and show managers looking for a great venue for your clients. Call Kristie Wehmeyer, booking agent for the KEC, for details and booking information: 859-842-4100.

To be held at the Kentucky Equestrian Center
Winchester, Ky.
March 24, and what a great day we had at the Kentucky Equestrian Center's first "Play Day" of 2010 offered by the Buffalo Trace Mounted Patrol. A patient and informative instructor, Robert Milward, work with the attendees in taking horse and riders though the baby steps to address new obstacles and challenges. There was a Percheron, and Saddlebreds, and Quarter Horses, and mountain horses, to just name a few of the different breeds, and owners who came to learn. The Kentucky Equestrian Center was beautiful, and the obstacle course was the perfect place to challenge the riders in a safe environment. We learned which obstacles to step on and which ones to step over (like a person laying on the ground). We went though a "car wash" and learn to to push around a multi colored 4 foot ball. At the end of the day we played "hoofball" with that 4 foot ball, which was amazing since the horses had only been introduced to it that afternoon. What a blast to have 4 to 6 riders encouraging there horse to push this ball around. Take a peek at the video and you will see how much fun we had.
